On a related note, Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin (who discovered the Tiktaalik fossil in 2006) is a fascinating little book. To think that mankind has the ability to see the past--our past--by looking into space or digging into the earth is, to me, one of the great profundities.

(Speaking of Galapagos, it's one of Vonnegut's finest.)
